I work mainly with industrial clients, manufacturers and distributors. In those environments, we find some common areas that can cause accidents and injuries. Some simple, but effective remedies are PPE or Personal Protective Equipment, such as safety glasses, earplugs to protect hearing, steel toed shoes, and long pants and long sleeve shirts to protect the skin from hot metal shavings from welding, grinding or cutting operations. The US Department of Labor estimates that Every day an estimated 1,000 eye injuries occur in American workplaces. The financial cost of these injuries is enormous–more than $300 million per year in lost production time, medical expenses, and workers compensation. No dollar figure can adequately reflect the personal toll these accidents take on the injured workers. Though enforcing eye protection may seem a chore to manufacturing management, the benefits are a safer, more productive work place.
